New Bookmobile Bringing Library Services to the Community

The Windsor Public Library is thrilled to announce the launch of its brand-new bookmobile, FRED 2.0!

This innovative library on wheels made its first official stop at Captain Wilson Park on Thursday, July 3, 2025, marking the beginning of a new era in community outreach and access to library services.

“This initiative underscores our Library Board’s and City Council’s commitment to ensuring that everyone in our community has access to the wealth of resources and services that our library offers”, said Library Board Vice-Chair Kieran McKenzie. “It’s a significant investment ensuring access to educational materials, technology, and support where it is most needed”.

The new bookmobile is equipped to offer the same services as a regular library branch, including book lending, digital resources, and various programs for all ages.

“FRED 2.0 is designed to serve Windsor residents in various areas of need, particularly those who lack convenient access to a nearby library”, said Chief Executive Officer Jen Knights. “The bookmobile will visit locations such as the Unemployed Help Centre, Harmony in Action, the John McGivney Centre, several nursing homes, and many signature events across the city”.

For more information about Fred 2.0’s schedule and services, please visit the Bookmobile Page at windsorpubliclibrary.com.  Suggestions for a stop are welcome, too.

About FRED 2.0:

FRED is an acronym for the Freedom to Read, Educate and Discover.  FRED was our previous bookmobile, which was purchased used in 2016 and had a strong run of events and locations until 2020.  FRED 2.0 will continue that incredible legacy for years to come.

Are there any plans to expand FRED 2.0’s services to rural or underserved neighborhoods outside Windsor?
