Conceptual Drawings For John Muir Public Library Approved

The JOHN MUIR branch will be the newest in the Windsor Public Library system when it opens in April 2018.

Plans call for the 3,800 sq. ft. branch to be housed in the renovated old Sandwich Fire Hall on Mill Street. Architect Jason Grossi of studio g+G inc. has developed conceptual drawings for the $2,5 million renovation project which balance WPL needs with the space limitations of the location. The plans recognize the need for a functional library in the 21st. century, providing space for customers, technology and the Sandwich local history collection which Mr. Muir was passionate about.

Windsor Public Library Board Chair, Dr. Peter Frise, said that the “John Muir design is a wonderful reflection of the Sandwich community and the passion John Muir had for the area and its history.”

Mr. Muir was Vice-Principal of General Brock Public School for 4 years in the 1970s and returned as principal from 1981 to 1987 and immediately became a leader in advocating for a public library in Sandwich.

The Windsor Public Library Board and staff are privileged and honoured to recognize Mr. Muir for his ongoing efforts to make the community a better place.

Mr. Muir passed away in July, 2016.
