Susan Holbrook

Dr. Susan Holbrook is a Canadian writer. An accomplished poet and author, Dr. Holbrook is also a professor of English literature and creative writing at the University of Windsor.

After receiving her B.A Honours at Victoria, Dr. Holbrook received her Master of Arts and her PhD from the University of Calgary.

Dr. Holbrook has an extensive publication history. She has had several books of poetry published, including misled (2009), Good Egg Bad Seed (2004), Joy Is So Exhausting (2009) (a finalist for the Trillium Award in 2010), and Throaty Wipes (2016), which was nominated for the Governor General’s Award for English-Language Poetry. Her work has also been featured in a collection of poetry by Windsor-Essex authors entitled Detours (2013). In addition to her books of poetry, Dr. Holbrook has had many academic works published, including a textbook on the study of poetry entitled How to Read (And Write About) Poetry (2015) and a book on Gertrude Stein and Virgil Thompson entitled The Letters of Gertrude Stein and Virgil Thomson: Composition as Conversation (2010).  As a professor at the University of Windsor, Dr. Holbrook’s areas of study include creative writing, Canadian literature, American modernism, gender studies, and more.
