Norman and Denise Young

Norman Clifford Young was born in 1920 in Walkerville. Although he never went to university, Mr. Young had an inquisitive mind. He had many hobbies, including coin Norman Clifford Youngcollecting and stamp collecting.

Mr. Young worked for Canada Customs. In 1948, he married Denise Isabel, who had recently emigrated from England. Together, they would go on vacations to Florida. There, Norman was able to add to his sea shell collection, and go birding and fishing.

Mr. Young was very interested in science.  Besides collecting sea shells, he also enjoyed birding and fishing. Norman was an avid reader, and read about many subjects including geology, oceanography and astronomy.

Having grown up during the Great Depression, Mr. Young understood the value of money. He believed in the old saying, “A penny saved is a penny earned.”

Young died in 2013 at the age of 93. He was an inspiration to everyone who knew him, and he wanted to share his legacy with some worthy institutions. Besides the Windsor Public Library, he also left money for other worthy organizations such as the Goodfellows of Windsor and the Downtown Mission.
