Nicole Markotić

Dr. Nicole Markotić is an accomplished Canadian poet, novelist, and literary critic and editor. She is also a professor of English Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Windsor. There she specializes in Canadian literature, children’s literature, creative writing, and disability studies in both film and literature.

She received her M.A. from the University of Manitoba and her PhD from the University of Calgary.

Dr. Markotić has a substantial publication history. Her poetry books include Connect the Dots (1994), Minotaurs & Other Alphabets (1998), Bent at the Spine (2012), and Whelmed

(2016). Her poetry has also been featured in various literary journals and chapbooks, including widows & orphans (2004) and more excess (1997), winner of the bpNichol Chapbook Award. As a novelist, Dr. Markotić focuses on representations of disability, evident in her novels Yellow Pages (2002), Scrapbook of My Years as a Zealot (2008), and a young adult fiction novel entitled Rough Patch (2017). As a literary critic, Dr. Markotić has published Disability in Film and Literature (2016), and has co-edited books entitled The Problem Body: Projecting Disability on Film (2010) and Robert Kroetsch: Essays on his Work (2017).

In addition to writing, Dr. Markotić has previously worked as a poetry editor for Red Deer College Press (1998-2004), DisOrientation Chapbooks (Calgary), NeWest Press, and presently Windsor-run chapbook publisher, Wrinkle Press.
