Kylie Masse

Swimmer, Olympic medal winner, university student

A few years ago, this swimmer was ranked as 200^th, but in August of 2016, she became the third fastest swimmer in the world! The name of this swimmer is … Kylie Masse.

She was born in Windsor, Ontario in 1996. Her family moved to the nearby town of LaSalle where her mother enrolled her and her siblings in the local swimming programme. All the children loved swimming, but Kylie excelled at it. While in grade school, she had fun with other sports such as soccer and hockey. When she turned 12, she dropped the other sports to concentrate on swimming and joined WEST (the Windsor Essex Swim Team). There, her coaches were Andrei Semenov and Lou Pocock.

After graduating from Sandwich West Secondary School, Kylie began studies in kinesiology at the University of Toronto. There, she was able to continue her training in competitive swimming.

In a short span, she has won a number of awards.

Swam at the 2013 summer Canada Games
Named the Varsity Blues’ female rookie of the year in 2014-15
Won the gold medal in the 50m backstroke at the OUA Swimming Competition, 2015
Won the gold medal in the 100m backstroke at the OUA Swimming Competition, 2015
Won the gold medal in the 200m backstroke at the OUA Swimming Competition, 2015
Won the gold medal in the 200m freestyle relay at the OUA Swimming Competition, 2015
Won the gold medal in the 400m medley relay at the OUA Swimming Competition, 2015
Set a new record for the 200m medley with a time of 2:12.78 at same competition
Named the OUA female swimmer of the year in 2016
Won the gold medal at the World University Games in the 100m backstroke
Named CIS Female swimmer of the year, 2016
