On May 1, 2025, we will be reducing the number of monthly checkouts available through our Hoopla service from 15 to 5.
These changes, which have already happened at many other libraries, will help ensure that the Windsor Public Library (WPL) can continue to provide equitable access to this popular platform and other resources while managing rising costs.
Why Are We Making This Change?
We understand that Hoopla is a favorite service for many of our patrons, and we want to continue offering it for everyone. However, it’s a pay per checkout system, and the cost of providing Hoopla has been increasing rapidly as our user base grows. Since 2022, the cost of offering Hoopla has increased by nearly 100%, and we’re seeing a 50% increase just this year.
What Does This Mean for You?
While we’re reducing the number of checkouts, most users won’t notice a significant difference. In fact, 70% of our patrons have used 5 or fewer checkouts per month in 2025, so this change will only affect a small number of users. And if you are a regular Hoopla user don’t forget, Hoopla offers opportunities such as “bonus borrows” at the end of the month, and “binge passes” (bundles of content for one borrow).
We appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure all patrons have fair and sustainable access to library resources. We also encourage everyone to explore our other digital library collections.
