Access Hundreds of Reference Books Online
The Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL) offers online access to reference materials covering a wide range of subjects: history, biography, business, medicine, health, law, literature, etc. Browsing the shelves in GVRL is a very similar experience to browsing the shelves in the library, because all of the resources it contains have print equivalents; cover art, illustrations, page numbers, volumes, and everything else are the same regardless of whether you are looking at the print or digital copy.
Anytime Access: Many of our print reference books can only be used inside the library. GVRL books can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection, so there’s no need to work around the library’s hours of operation. Procrastinators rejoice – you can pull all-nighters and still cite authoritative resources.
Easy to Navigate: You can browse by subject, search by title, or use advanced search. No prerequisite knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System is required! Hovering over a cover brings up a brief description of the book, and you can even search separately within any publication.
Accessibility Tools: There are built in options to translate entries, or you can also listen to them read out loud. Tutorials on how to use these tools are made available by clicking on the orange Help Guide icon.
Citations are a Breeze: No need to consult the style manual – simply click on ‘Citation Tools’ and choose MLA or APA.
There’s An App Too: In the App Store or Google Play search for “Gale” – from there, choose “AccessMyLibrary: Public Edition”. Choose Windsor Public Library, and Gale eBooks. This will bring up all of the titles for you to scroll through and explore.
To access GVRL from our Home Page, hover on Research, Select Databases, and then look in Reference > For Everybody. Or, click here.
