Emilia Cundari
Musician.
Born in 1930 in Detroit, Michigan, Emilia Cundari was an opera singer. She was raised and grew up in Windsor, Ontario. Cundari is notable for having performed at many world-renown opera venues, such as the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, and for having 
worked with well-known figures in the opera industry including composers George Szell and Sir John Barbirolli. She is also recognized for her impressive, natural vocal talent.
Cundari lived in Windsor as a young child. She studied at St. Mary’s Academy and received a bachelor’s degree in music from Marygrove College. She went on to win the Grinnell Music Award, which allowed her to move to New York to study with Max Rudolf and the New York City Opera. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Cundari performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and worked on several recordings including Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. After working at La Scala in Milan, Cundari moved back to Windsor and settled down to raise a family. Though Cundari was repeatedly approached to return to the music industry, she did not generally accept performance requests. She became a music teacher following her career as an opera singer. A tribute to Cundari was held at the Giovanni Caboto Club in January, 2015.
Emilia passed away on January 6, 2005 in Michigan.
