Dennis Fairall
The coach with the most wins in Canadian Inter-University Sport (CIS), Mr. Fairall has helped build the University of Windsor’s Track and Field team into a long standing powerhouse. He is a member of both the Windsor-Essex County Sports Hall of Fame as 
well as the Athletics Ontario Hall of Fame (as a builder.)
Born June 10, 1953 in Tillsonburg Ontario, Dennis has had a lifetime of great personal athletic achievement, and has reached great heights as one of the best track and field coaches in Canadian history.
A gold medal winning athlete in Ontario University Athletics (OUA), Fairall has long been involved with track. He won the gold medal in the men’s 4×200 meter relay at the 1977 OUA championships, and used his own experience to inspire and help others reach great heights.
He began his coaching career with the University of Windsor Lancers in 1985 when he was hired by then-dean Mike Salters, and has turned their Track and Field program into a national powerhouse. Fairall’s teams have had great success, which include 25 CIS National Championships, and 46 OUA provincial titles. These successes accompany his 38 wins as either CIS or OUA coach of the year.
In 2012, Fairall’s Lancers had won 19 of the past 20 provincial championships in men’s track and field and four of the past five championships in women’s track and field.
Such great success has had immeasurable positive impact on the lives of his athletes who stayed in sport, or went on to other things. He has touched an immeasurable number of lives, and his time with Windsor’s program has produced Olympians Peter Fonseca, O’Brian Gibbons, and Melissa Bishop. There is also now a building named after him in Windsor, as the University here renamed the St. Denis Centre fieldhouse as the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse “to honour the contributions of one of the most decorated coaches in the history of Canadian university sport.” We are lucky to be able to include Coach Dennis Fairall among the group of Famous Windsorites.
