Christopher Rees

Sculptor

Christopher Rees’ work as an artist and sculptor has been recognized around the world. His works include depictions of Dr. Roberta Bondar, David Suzuki, Karen Kain, and Moe Closs. Rees is best known for his sculpture of Marilyn Monroe, which has been featured on several Canadian and American television shows, in magazines, and in books about the actress. Other Hollywood notables who have been immortalized by Rees include Johnny Carson and actress Joan Collins.

Rees settled in Windsor in 1969 and maintained his studio in Windsor. He was commissioned to create a sculpture in memory of Gladys Shepley, a head librarian at Windsor Public Library, entitled “Shared Joy.” He was an active member of many Windsor area artists’ groups, including the Windsor Woodcarving Museum.

Christopher Rees was born in Redding, England and educated at the West Sussex College of Arts and Crafts as well as the Bournemouth and Poole College of Arts. He died in 2004, leaving behind his wife Caroll and two grown children.
