In 2016, we grew a lot. In Forest Glade, we launched our first Seed Library. Last summer, we also launched our first ever demonstration garden. Thanks to support from Councillor and Library Board member, Rino Bortolin, the balcony garden was a great addition through the growing season.
In 2017, we’re making it even better. A new seed library has opened up at the Central Library (850 Ouellette Ave,) and we want to help Windsor harvest all the benefits of growing your own plants.
Join us this Saturday from 1:00-4:00pm as we launch the Central Seed Library. We’ve learning how to grow, and you can see different ways things can grow in different spaces. Come out, join in, and let’s grow Windsor together! We’ll have demonstrations such as making your own planter, growing vegetables upside down, a story-time for kids, and more!
How the Central Seed Library Works:
This is where we have our seed library and balcony garden. We’ve also got a nice display of books on gardening featuring some great ideas for any space. We’ve also got some amazingly talented librarians on hand who can find the answer to almost any question you have.

The WPL Seed Library and Apartment Garden
This is the seed library. If there’s something you want, you can take the case to the checkout desk downstairs.

This is a package of seeds. They usually contain 3-4 seeds.

From there, you can grow your seeds! We’ve been using a few ways to grow. Below, is a mini green house.

Regardless of how you want to plant them, there are options. From digging up some dirt in your back yard, to going to the store and buying growing kits – there are many options. The key though is getting the seed into the right conditions, with good light and the right moisture. If all goes well, soon you’ll have something that looks like this:
