Brandon McBride
Brandon McBride is a local athlete who is a part of Team Canada in the 2016 Rio 
Olympics. A veteran in track and field, he mainly competes in 400m and 800m races, and 4x400m relays.
Brandon was born in 1994 in Windsor to Bernard McBride and Marquita Borders and he has a younger brother William. He has dreamed of competing for Team Canada ever since he started track in elementary school. Brandon credits his speed to countless nights of running home to meet his curfew – even though his friends lived 2-3km away, Brandon’s mom would not accept tardiness.
Brandon attended W.F. Herman Secondary School in Windsor, and then went on to study Business Administration at the Mississippi State University on a track scholarship. After graduating, he enrolled in a Master’s program in Public Administration at his alma mater, and plans to one day enter law school and become a corporate lawyer.
At the Canadian Olympic trials in July 2016 in Edmonton, Brandon won the men’s 800m race, which allowed him to compete in the 2016 Rio Olympics. During his time at Mississippi State University, he had also won two titles as a sophomore, and was the third fastest in NCAA history (the second fastest in NCAA for a Canadian).
