Peter Hrastovec
Peter Hrastovec is a Canadian poet and lawyer who lives and works in Windsor, Ontario.
Hrastovec is the author of three poetry books, all published by Black Moss Press: In Lieu of Flowers (2012), Sidelines (2015), and There Will Be Fish (2022). In 2017, he was one of
Windsor’s “Group of Seven Poets” published in the anthology Because We Have All Lived Here (2017), a publication to celebrate Windsor’s 125th anniversary. His poetry has also been published in the Windsor Review, LIBRETTO magazine, and the anthology Whisky Sour City (2013). He has appeared at several community and literary events in Windsor, including the By the River Reading Series, the Harvest Poetry Gathering, and BookFest Windsor.
Peter Hrastovec was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario. His parents, Antica and Stjepan Hrastovec, emigrated from Croatia and settled in Windsor in the 1950s. He graduated from Assumption College High School before going on to study at the University of Windsor, where he earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature and a Bachelor of Laws.
Hrastovec currently practices law in Windsor, where he lives with his wife Denise and three children. Hrastovec is actively involved in the Windsor-Essex community; some of his previous roles include President of the University of Windsor Alumni Association, President of the Windsor Symphony Society, Chair of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce, President of the Rotary Club of Windsor 1918, and United Way Campaign Co-Chair. He has received multiple awards and honours, including the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Lifetime Achievement Award (2014) and the Law Society of Upper Canada’s Law Society Medal (2009). Additionally, Hrastovec has acted in local community theatre productions.
