Daniel Bombardier (Enjoy Denial, DENIAL)
Visual Artist, Muralist, Gallery Owner
Daniel Joseph Bombardier (born September 27, 1976) is a Canadian pop/mural artist whose aerosol and stencil art works examine and critique current politics, capitalism, consumerism and in society. Bombardier attended local high schools including Forster and Walkerville Collegiate. His artistic career began in 1999 when he became involved in the street art movement. That same year Bombardier adopted the alter ego ‘DENIAL’ as a means of mocking current politics and media that society is often ‘in denial’. His studio Fiveten Design Factory is located in downtown Windsor. DENIAL has painted or curated around 40 murals in Windsor, as well as internationally. His work includes an ongoing international street-campaign of over 500, 000 stickers, signs and murals, using the alpha-numeric characters ‘D3N!@L’. Mocking current marketing strategies, DENIAL also challenges traditional concepts of graffiti and public art through his dynamic and often satirical pop art. DENIAL’s works defy the detached consumerism society accepts today by using comedic artistic expression, and provocative imagery.
In 2012 Daniel started ‘Free 4 All Walls’ which is the largest public art project of its kind in South West Ontario. Working with local and international artists, DENIAL has produced vibrant murals about the culture and history of Windsor. The government funded program has been an enormous success supporting local talent and promoting the value of street-art in contemporary society. An excellent example of DENIAL working the local community is The WIFF Alley. The Windsor International Film Festival inspired the creation of the mural, by artists Denial, Derkz, and Kristina Bradt, will now be “lit with lights hung up to show the art in all of its glory at all times of the day”. Even during the quarantine of 2020 DENIAL continues to educate and entertain the public. Throughout the entire month of May 2020, he provided “an inside look into the studio of an artist in quarantine.”
