WPL Celebrates 125 Years

To celebrate 125 years of library service to the community, WPL is featuring photographs from the local history collection and community archive. On a daily basis for the balance of December, we will present an interesting and unique image of our city, which we hope will fascinate and entertain.

Children decorate the Christmas tree at the Tecumseh Mall branch in the mid-1970s. The Tecumseh Mall branch opened in the spring of 1973 to serve the growing developments of Forest Glade, Hawthorn, Roseville Gardens and Fontainebleau. The second WPL branch to operate in a mall, the Tecumseh Mall location occupied 4,500 square feet and cost $20,250 per year in lease costs. It closed when the Forest Glade Optimist branch opened in 1988.
