“Strange things are happening to Maya’s tiny Vancouver Island town. First, her friend Serena, the captain of the swim team, drowns mysteriously in the middle of a calm lake. Then one year later, mountain lions are spotted rather frequently around Maya’s home – and her reactions to them are somewhat… unexpected. Her best friend, Daniel, has also been experiencing inexplicable premonitions about certain people and situations. It doesn’t help that the new bad boy in town, Rade,  has a dangerous secret… and he’s interested in one special part of Maya’s anatomy – her paws print birthmark.”

This trilogy is a great continuing story from the Darkest powers. It takes kids just like Chloe and the gang and puts them in a different situation, if not more dangerous. It’s action packed and never has a dull moment, with the characters’ snarky remarks and comedic actions. HINT: the Darkest Powers characters and the Darkness Rising characters meet up! If you do end up reading both of these great trilogies, there are two e-books you should read: Atoning and Darkest Powers Stories.
