Books into Movies

It seems that every movie that comes out these days is based on a book. I mean, why reinvent the wheel when there are so many great stories out there already? But when producers and directors adapt a beloved story for the big screen they risk upsetting the scores of built in fans. And, of course, we all want to see our favorite characters on screen just as we imagined them when reading the book. Sometimes they get it right and sometimes fans wonder what on earth they were thinking. Well, this has been a big month for movie makers to try and impress us with their big screen adaptations of YA books!

 We’re highlighting three here.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

I enjoyed the first ‘Hunger Games’ movie and thought it came pretty close to the book. And of course like everyone else on the planet, I’m looking forward to seeing ‘Catching Fire’ this weekend! Click here if you want to get an extra fix of Katniss and the gang.

The Book Thief

The movie I really can’t wait to see is the movie adaptation of Markus Zusak’s, ‘The Book Thief’. I really enjoyed that book and hope that the movie stays true to his vision. You can see the trailer here. If you haven’t read the book yet, WPL has many copies available and you can place a hold here.

Ender’s Game

Finally, for the Sci-Fi lovers out there, ‘Ender’s Game’, Orson Scott Card’s classic about a child who must fight aliens to save the human race, has hit the big screen. Check out the trailer here. If you’d like to read the book, place a hold here.

WPL would love to hear from you if you’ve seen any of these and would like to weigh in. We’d also love to hear about your favourite book-turned movie.
