LIBRARY OUTREACH TO HELP NOVICE DIY ENTHUSIASTS

Visitors to FRED, the mobile Windsor Public Library resource-on-wheels, will have the ability to borrow tools for small home and garden projects.

Lowe’s Canada has generously agreed to partner with Windsor Public Library to provide the toolkits, which will include screwdrivers, hammers, pliers, wrenches, and a tape measure as well as an assortment of nails and screws.  Other tools include a cordless drill and bits, a router and a sander.  FRED will also provide access to DIY resources and databases, which customers can check out or access to assist with their DIY projects.

“On behalf of the Windsor Public Library Board, I would like to thank Lowe’s for stepping forward and making this tremendous donation,” said WPL Board Chair, Dr. Peter Frise.  “This is an exciting time as public libraries are changing with new technologies and services.  This is another example of our library serving the community in a unique and practical way.  The Lowe’s tool donation will continually give back and benefit our community.”

“Lowe’s has a history of investing in the communities it serves,” said Windsor Lowe’s Store Manager, Mark Birse. “We are always looking to invest in initiatives which focus on skilled trades education and community improvement projects.  This partnership with the Windsor Public Library is a perfect fit for us – it provides us with an opportunity to assist an important community resource like the public library by providing the materials needed to offer an important service to the community.”

In addition to traditional library materials, a variety of other resources are available on board, including programs, WIFI, access to computers and a printer, opportunities to experiment with technology from the Library Tech Hub, as well the ability for customers to borrow and return books, movies and video games. The Tool Lending Library will allow customers to check out tools and DIY resources at the same time.

For health and safety reasons, our Bookmobile, which houses the tool lending library, is not accessible to customers at this time.
