This week’s Throwback Thursday Pic was taken sometime in the 1940s. It is of the Dayus Roofing Company offices at 144 Sandwich Street West (Riverside Dr. West). Dayus Roofing has been a local roofing company since the 1920s. Dayus moved to this location in 1937 and stayed at this address until 1953 when the business moved to Howard Avenue. FOREST GLADE BRANCH CELEBRATES 35 YEARS

Forest Glade branch is celebrating a birthday on Monday, May 15.  For 35 years it has been providing entertainment, educational and information resources to the residents of East Windsor. An Open House is scheduled from 3 to 5 pm.  Library staff would love to have the community stop by to celebrate:  food, fun activities and giveaways are scheduled. As we head into another travel season, this week’s Throwback Thursday Pic was taken sometime in the 1930s at Windsor International Airport. The photograph is of a Trans Canada Airlines (predecessor to Air Canada) Lockheed 10 Electra arriving at Windsor. According to Wikipedia, the Lockheed 10 Electra had a crew of 2 and a capacity of 10 passengers with a cruising speed of 185 mph and a cruising altitude of about 21,000 feet. The photograph was taken in 1959 by the city’s Traffic Engineering Department to show illegal parking situation along a major fire route, as the Central Fire Station was up on the next street and to the left. The white building on the left side of the photograph was the old Windsor’s Farmers Market that was demolished in the mid-1990s to make way for the new casino.
