{"id":2805,"date":"2022-05-24T12:27:31","date_gmt":"2022-05-24T16:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.windsorpubliclibrary.com\/digital\/?page_id=2805"},"modified":"2022-06-02T12:34:00","modified_gmt":"2022-06-02T16:34:00","slug":"indigenous-artists-and-exhibitions-2022","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.windsorpubliclibrary.com\/digital\/?page_id=2805","title":{"rendered":"Indigenous Artists and Exhibitions 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.agw.ca\/exhibition\/586\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Itee Pootoogook<\/a>: Hymns to the Silence \u2013 Art Gallery of Windsor June 10-September 25, 2022<br \/>\nInuk artist Itee Pootoogook (1951 \u2013 2014) was well-known for his drawings of solitary figures or architecture placed amongst vast Arctic landscapes<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ostoropetahtegoose.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ostoro Petahtegoose<\/a><br \/>\nOstoro Petahtegoose is a biracial Nishinaabe of Atikameksheng Anishnawbek with European descent, born and raised in the traditional territories of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Anishinaabe, the Odawa, and the Potawatomie, also known as one of its many place names in one language, Waawiiye\u2019adinong (the place where the river bends \u2013 Windsor, Ontario.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontariosciencecentre.ca\/what-s-on\/artist-in-residence\/asaimina-all-over-again\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ontario Science Centre: Asaim\u00eena: All Over Again <\/a><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2890 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.windsorpubliclibrary.com\/digital\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/alloveragain-300x169.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.windsorpubliclibrary.com\/digital\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/alloveragain-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/www.windsorpubliclibrary.com\/digital\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/alloveragain-508x286.png 508w, https:\/\/www.windsorpubliclibrary.com\/digital\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/alloveragain.png 683w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\nAll Over Again, an interactive art display by the Science Centre\u2019s 2021-22 Artist in Residence, Jason Baerg.<br \/>\nThrough this work, viewers are encouraged to imagine a different Toronto (also known as Tkaronto). Baerg first presented Asaim\u00eena as a physical exhibition. Using a tablet, visitors manipulated a display of images, sounds and Cree language fragments, which were projected together in the shape of a large orb.<br \/>\nTo bring Asaim\u00eena to a wider audience, we are proud to present it here in a virtual format. His ancestors are from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Reserve, Manitoulin Island.<\/p>\n<p>Native Wonders Gifts &amp; Gallery is family-owned and run, selling both original and consigned art.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/indigenousartscollective.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Indigenous Arts Collective<\/a><br \/>\nIn taking inspiration from the Haudenosaunee Seventh Generation Principle, the Indigenous Arts Collective of Canada was founded in 2012 to preserve and revitalize endangered Indigenous art forms and enrich lives through Indigenous arts and culture.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/passthefeather.org\/culture-shock-jewelry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kathryn Pasquach<\/a><br \/>\nKathryn is a Cree women with ties from the Mushkegowuk area a member of Moose Cree First Nation. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/player\/play\/1974761539981\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/player\/play\/1974761539981\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/windsorlife.com\/?p=4265\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Local Indigenous Artists Contribute Murals: Gordie Howe International Bridge<\/a><br \/>\nThe murals on the Canadian side of the bridge site were created by artists Naomi Peters of Caldwell First Nation, as well as Teresa Altiman and Daisy White from Walpole Island, as part of a project to incorporate art honouring the region\u2019s First Nations heritage with this new, modern addition to the landscape. The permanent collection is 6,400 artworks by Tom Thomson, the Group of Seven, their contemporaries and First Nations, M\u00e9tis, Inuit and contemporary artists. He has spent his life learning from elders in northern Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
