changes to our lending services policy

Windsor Public Library is officially fine-free!  We stopped charging late fees during the Covid-19 pandemic and our Board has decided to make that our official policy going forward.   Please note that we won’t be charging late fines but WILL continue to charge fees for lost or damaged items.  It is important that we get our items back so that others can use them!  In order to make sure that our materials are still being returned in a timely manner, we’re going to be implementing the following changes to our Lending Services Policy as of March 20, 2024:

  • We will be adopting an Automatic Renewal feature which means that all renewable items will automatically renew on their due date as long as there are no HOLDS on the item.  This will be done a maximum of 5 times per item.  You’ll no longer have to log in or call us to renew items…it will happen automatically!  While there are a few items types that cannot be renewed, such as Quick Views/Reads, magazines and Parks Passes, the vast majority of your checked out items will automatically renew up to 5 times as long as no one else is waiting for them.  Keeping your library account in good standing, however, is still your responsibility. We suggest you still keep an eye on your account since items that cannot be automatically renewed could end up with an overdue status. More information on how Automatic Renewals work will be coming shortly!
  • Materials that have not been returned more than 30 days AFTER the due date will be charged as LOST to the account.
  • Accounts will be blocked when there are more than 3 items in the OVERDUE status OR more than $25 owing. However, in most cases, if you return the items your account will unblock and you can continue using our services once again!
  • WPL will resume referring accounts with at least 1 item that has been LOST for more than 6 months AND owing at least $50 to a collections management service.   A $15 referral fee is charged when an account is referred so please reach out to us before it gets to this point.  We’re always available to discuss options with you!

Simply put, if you return your items in a timely manner it will keep your account in good standing while also freeing up materials for others to enjoy!

Thanks for the update. And that is a great way of doing it. It seems fair to me.
