THROWBACK THURSDAY

This photograph was taken in the mid 1970s when Downtown Windsor was still the main shopping district of the city. This week’s Throwback Thursday Pic is of Ouellette Avenue looking eastward between University Ave. and Chatham Street. In this view from left to right, there is the Real Lace and Linen Store, Ronald Furs, Wickham’s of Windsor and Thrifty’s More than Just Pants. Today, this block still stands much as it did fifty years ago, but the business have changed from stores to restaurants with a coffee shop, shawarma shop, pizza place and a former cigar store that has been closed for number of years. 1. Vicki Stone says:

Look at all the private businesses there were then. Now so many of these shops have been usurped for chain stores.

    How things have changed.
