THROWBACK THURSDAY

This week’s Throwback Thursday Pic was taken sometime in the early 1960s of the McKinnon Industries building located on Walker Road at Seminole Street. McKinnon Industries was created in 1925 and by 1929 with the growth of the automobile industry, General Motors purchased the business. McKinnon Industries made various parts for the automotive and non-automotive industry. The company make electric motors for washing machines and refrigerators, and car and truck radios and eventually even made V-8 engines for Oldsmobile. The building was demolished to make way for the GM Transmission plant, which itself was demolished and the land is currently used as a parking lot for new vehicles waiting to be shipped.
