The Essex County War Memorial located today at City Hall Square, erected in honour of those who gave their lives during the First World War. The monument was made of pink granite and rises to a height of 20 feet, based on the design by local architect George Y. Mason. If was unveiled on November 11, 1924 in its original location on Giles Boulevard at Ouellette Avenue, where this photograph was in 1925. The 106-ton monument was moved in 1965, stone by stone and reassembled at its current location where it was rededicated on November 11, 1965.
