The demolition of the Norton Palmer Hotel is this week’s Throwback Thursday picture. The Norton Palmer Hotel was one of Windsor’s premier hotels that closed in 1974 and was demolished not long after. This photograph is looking east on Park Street at the intersection with Victoria Avenue. The building just further down Park Street was the Prince Edward Hotel, another premier hotel in Windsor that closed in the late 1960s. With newer and more modern hotels being constructed in downtown Windsor and more people traveling by automobile and staying at motels on the outskirts of Windsor, these historic hotels were unable to survive the change in tastes and travel options. Today, the Norton Palmer is the location of the Victoria Park Place condominiums and Prince Edward Hotel was replaced by the Scotiabank building.
