With students heading back to school next week, this week’s Throwback Thursday Pic is an aerial view of J. C. Patterson Collegiate Institute. The school was named after J. C. Patterson, who donated the land where the building was constructed in 1888. The school was located on Ann Street (today called Elliott St.) between Windsor and Goyeau. In 1906 the first addition to the school was built with a second addition added in 1917. Patterson Collegiate was closed in 1973 the year this photograph was taken because of a population movement to the suburbs. In 1979 the building was demolished and today is the parking lot for Food Basics grocery store.
