Today is ‘Go for a ride day’, so this week our Throwback Thursday pic is of Andrew Douglas Bowlby ready to take his Ford automobile for a ride. This photograph was taken around 1927 or ’28 in front of his house at 806 Victoria Avenue. Mr. Bowlby was one of the original investors in the Ford Motor Company of Canada and was the Ford agent for Essex and Lambton Counties. After the end of the First World War he sold his automobile business and opened a store selling manufactured goods on Sandwich Street (today Riverside Drive). Bowlby sat on numerous public boards and was appointed in 1922 as Juvenile Court Judge for Windsor and Essex County. Andrew Bowlby was a successful merchant, husband and father passing away on March 19th, 1934.
