Throwback Thursday

Looking south on Ouellette Avenue at Wyandotte Street this week’s Throwback Thursday pic was ¬†taken in 1965, of the Vanity movie theatre and F. W. Woolworth Department Store. Playing at the Vanity, was the movie “Mister Moses” starring Robert Mitchum and Carroll Baker. Stanley E. Taylor was the manager of the theatre at the time. The Vanity Theatre opened its doors in 1937 and closed them in 1987. The former theatre played host to a variety of bars and eventually stood empty for a number of years until being torn down in 2016. The F. W. Woolworths store eventually became The Bargain Shop around 1994. I do remember the Vanity Theatre & Woolworths very well .I used to shop there for my mother at Woolworths .They had many good deals in that store. It brings back many good memories for me .I also saw Help with the Beatles movie & The Graduate with Dustin Hoffman. Yes those were days I will always remember for sure..
