Afternoon tea gets “Rave Reviews”

Central Library’s Rave Reviews program was treated to a special tea service earlier this month. While staff usually provides simple tea and store-bought cookies for this monthly book chat, we were excited to have November’s meeting catered by the Union Jack Tea Room, a local pop-up tea service that specializes in traditional British afternoon teas.  In addition to two types of tea, there were mouth-watering scones, jam, clotted cream, lemon meringue tartlets, jam-filled shortbread biscuits and more, all served up on vintage china. We’d like to thank the Union Jack Tea Room for the lovely spread!

If you’re in a bit of a reading slump, looking for some recommendations or you just love chatting about good books, you might want to consider giving Rave Reviews a try. Each month, library staff present about ten books that they’ve recently enjoyed.  You can share your favourites as well.  We can’t always promise such a fancy spread but we can guarantee that there will be lots of talk about books and reading in a friendly, inviting atmosphere!

Rave Reviews runs the first Monday of each month (except for July and August) at 2:30 at the Central Library, 850 Ouellette. No need to register. Just drop in when you can! For more information please call Christine at 519-255-6770 x.4434

A very similar program titled Books with Buzz runs alternating months on the third Monday at 6:00 at the Budimir Library. For more information please phone Leisa or Nicole at 519-255-6770 x.3320
