Windsor Public Library was proud to host the launch of Fred Groves’ latest book, Homeless Not Hopeless: Windsor’s Untold Story this week. Groves researched the homeless situation in Windsor and Essex County, interviewing people affected by homelessness in different ways. The book talks about those needing the help, those who provide the help to them, and offers a list of resources available. 100% of the proceeds from the book will go to the Windsor-Essex Homeless Coalition. It can be purchased by visiting the Homeless Not Hopeless Facebook page.
The book launch is timely for Windsor Public Library, as we begin our work on the Library Hubs Meeting Community Needs project. Funded by a government grant, we have partnered with Guelph Public Library and Essex Public Library to create a plan to improve service delivery for homeless and impoverished populations, focusing on how the library can better serve their needs in partnership with other agencies. The toolkit developed through the project will be shared with libraries everywhere.
Elaine Coventry, project lead of the LHMCN, attended the book launch and says “meeting Fred Groves was a humbling experience.
