Young Adults

(Ages 13-17)

For customers from 13 to 17 years of age, a parent’s signature is no longer required to have a library card issued. Young Adults have the option of either having their parents sign for their card, or by reading and signing a form obtained at the library indicating you understand the responsibilities that you take on by having a library card, a library card can be issued without a parent’s signature. If a young adult wants to have their parent sign for their card, then both the parent and the young adult must be present when the card is issued.

If a Young Adult cannot show proof of address, the parent's proof of address can be accepted in its place. Please note you may be required to show more than one piece of identification to demonstrate your identity and residence.

Acceptable Forms of ID may include but is not limited to:

  • Passport
  • Current Ontario drivers licence
  • Ontario Health Card
  • Utilities Bill
  • Personalized Cheque Book
  • Pay Stub
  • Government Cheque
  • Personal mail delivered to your address by Canada Post

It is important that young adults develop good library behaviour and learn about the responsibility of possessing a library card. This includes care of books or other materials, responsibility to return items, and most importantly, good reading habits. If you would like more information on materials and resources we can offer young adults, please go to the Teen Section on our website and see what we offer!
