Rave Reviewed – September

On Wednesday, September 7th we had our first Rave Reviews session of the fall after taking a summer break. Jodie and I had loads of books to bring in, many of them lighter than usual since we’d been enjoying some summer reading. We also started meeting on a new date and time meeting on the first Wednesday of the month at 2 pm. It was so nice to be back and chat about some lovely books with some wonderful readers! Our Tech Hub Robots Have Names!

Congratulations to Dimitar and Breanna! They are the winners of our “Name our Robots” contest that was held in the Tech Hub at the Central Library this summer. The winning names are Psycho and Pinball for our Spheros and D.Devil and McQueen for our two Ollies. Dimitar and Breanna each win a certificate to print a design on the 3D printer at Central for free. Thanks to everyone who came out to visit our robots and suggested names for them. Library Led Homeschool Co-Op searching for Volunteers

WPL is now offering a co-operative learning environment for local homeschoolers. Monday afternoons at Riverside Library, we are opening the doors to families who are looking for new ways to educate, socialize and promote literacy to their children. Our first week had a great response. We had 30 children visit us and many parents came through to check out all the group had to offer. Help Grant Llama Llama Author’s Final Request

Yesterday, I was saddened to hear of Llama llama author Anna Dewdney‘s recent passing; she died of cancer on Saturday, September 3rd at the age of 50. While her death represents a real loss to the world of children’s literature, for me, it was Dewdney’s final request that I found most moving. She asked that, in lieu of a funeral, people celebrate her life by reading a book to a child.
