The Library
Foundation raised $110,000 toward the building of the new Kaysandra and
Christopher Curtis Children's Learning Centre at Central Library.
This
innovative children's centre focuses on the important 0-6 age group and
stresses the importance of interactive play and early literacy.

A $50,000 donation
from Mr. Mike Lazaritis of Research in Motion has enabled the Library
Foundation to purchase new science books which will benefit thousands of
high school students in our community.

A $10,000 gift from
Casino Windsor will allow the Library to build a new computer lab for the
Adult Literacy Program, enhancing both numeric and literacy skills of
learners.

A $10,000 pledge
from the Windsor Professional Firefighters Association will add hundreds
of children's books on firefighting and fire safety at every Windsor
Public Library branch.

The Library
Foundation has agreed to pay a pledge of $180,000 to the City of Windsor
for the Friends of Riverside Building Fund.

A donation of 40
computers to the Windsor Public Library Foundation from EDS will give more
people across the city access to word processing equipment.

The Windsor Public
Library Foundation will purchase new word processing software for the
donated computers.

A special table has
been purchased by the Library Foundation for award-winning author
Christopher Paul Curtis where he can write in the Children's Learning
Centre at Central Library. Mr. Curtis began his writing career at the
Windsor Public Library.

The Library
Foundation contributed $14,000 toward the establishment of a Children's
Endowment Fund which was matched in 2002 by the Ministry of Citizenship,
Culture and Recreation from the Children and Youth in Recreation Program.
The funds are designated for children 17 years of age and younger.

Foundation supported the 2003 Children's Summer Programs at the Windsor
Public Library by funding Swimmy's Story Craft and Chinese storyteller
Judy Fong Bates.

The Windsor Public
Library Foundation has agreed to raise $64,000 toward the creation
of new
children's learning centres at Budimir, Forest Glade-Optimist, Riverside
and Bridgeview libraries. Improvements will include new children's
furniture, picture book shelving, developmental toys and funding for a
children's librarian.
