Government of Canada (Federal government) Officers and representatives

  • The Governor General is the Queen’s representative for all Canada and acts as the Head of State. The Governor General is:
    His Excellency, The Right Honourable David Johnston.
  • The Prime Minister is the Head of Government. The Prime Minister is:
    The Right Honourable Stephen Harper.
  • The party in power is:
    The Conservative Party of Canada.
  • The party of the Official Opposition is:
    The New Democratic Party of Canada. (NDP)
  • The leader of the Official Opposition is:
    Nycole Turmel (interim leader).
  • The other official party and its leader is:
    The Liberal Party of Canada. (Lib.), Bob Rae (interim leader)
  • Your Member of Parliament (MP) in Ottawa:
    Representatives for the Government of Canada are chosen by elections. If you do not know the name of the electoral district, or riding, in which you live, first look at the maps created by Elections Canada to see where your home is located.

If you live in:

Windsor West your representative-elect is Brian Masse (NDP);
Windsor-Tecumseh your representative-elect is Joe Comartin (NDP);
Essex your representative-elect is Jeff Watson (Conservative)

Essex: your MPP is Taras Natyshak (NDP.)
Windsor-Tecumseh: your MPP is Dwight Duncan (Lib.)
