Pictured is the Meconi Homestead, Rome Garden Restaurant, 475 Windsor Ave. c. 1945-46. Clara Meconi Ryall and son Patrick, courtesy of Andrea Grimes. P10346

Impronte: Italian Imprints in Windsor, an exhibition on the Italian community in the Windsor area finished its run at Windsor's Community Museum in November; however it is now open at Canada South Science City at 930 Marion Avenue.

The exhibition will also be digitized thanks to a grant from the Government of Canada's Career Development Services Job Creation Partnership Project. Through this project we have a new staff person, Etleva Sofroni, to assist us.

Finally, the museum, in conjunction with St. Angela Merici Church, is looking to publish a book on the history of the Italians in the Windsor area. We are still looking for input (photographs, documents, stories) from members of the Italian community.

Of particular interest is information and photographs about businesses, clubs and organizations involved with the early history of the Italian community. Contact Madelyn Della Valle, Exhibition Curator, at 253-1812 or Caterina Lopez at 735-5906.

50th Anniversary Print

As part of our 50th birthday celebrations the museum has asked Windsor artist and printmaker, Tony Mosna, to produce a print celebrating the 50th anniversary of the museum. Tony’s design will be printed on the Reliance Press, a circa 1893 cast iron printing press on display at the museum. This press, donated by the Windsor Star, was used to produce the Windsor Record (1860-1919), the forerunner of the Windsor Star.

Tony is producing an edition of fifty prints that will be part of a fundraising campaign. The funds raised will assist in the purchase of a new microfilm-microfiche reader and printer for the museum’s archives.

Details:
*Donations of $100.00 or more will receive a charitable tax receipt as well as a numbered and signed linoleum print.
The image is 30 cm x 23 cm.
*Cheques are to be made payable to Windsor Historic Sites Association.

Remember there will only be fifty prints produced…
