It takes more then a great idea or product to make a business successful. You’ll need to do your research and plan how the business will be structured and financed. You’ll also need to make sure you get the proper permits and licenses. The following pages can provide some help in completing this process.

1 – MARKET RESEARCH

Doing your research when it comes to the market in your potential business area is one of the keys to success in building your own business. There is a great deal of information out there, but if you do your homework it will more than pay off in the end.

WPL has company directories & statistical information (available both in print and electronic versions) to help you in your research.

Windsor Public Library has some helpful new market research resources from Stats Canada. The following publications can assist you in your business and marketing planning. They can be found at the 2nd floor reference desk at Central Library

Library staff can get you started in your search. And if you need more in-depth assistance, WPL staff can perform the searches for you for a fee.

 A well written business plan can not only help your business run smoothly, it can also demonstrate to potential investors and financial institutions that you have what it takes to succeed.
