If you have balls of yarn gathering dust in a corner, a drawer, a closet or a basket, the Windsor Public Library can help you find a home for it! All WPL branches are now accepting donations of yarn to the LeeLee Hats program. Started in 2010, LeeLee Hats is a local non-profit group that creates and donates handmade hats to babies in hospitals with a focus on those in neonatal intensive care units. They have so far donated close to 30,000 hats to hospitals in Windsor, Leamington, Sarnia, Chatham, and Detroit. LeeLee Hats clubs meet in many places across Windsor and Essex County, including several branches of WPL. Unwanted yarn of any colour or variety can be given to library staff at any of our branches and it will be forwarded to the group. Even small amounts can be used to create flowers and other accessories for the hats so nothing will be wasted. For more information about the group visit the LeeLee Hats facebook page. If you’re interested in attending one of their knitting/looming groups here at WPL check out our program guide for upcoming dates. It is listed under Adult Programs but all ages and abilities are welcome to attend.
WPL and LeeLee Hats would like to thank all those whose generosity helps keep them knitting!
