As Sandwich residents prepare for the opening of the John Muir Branch of WPL in the former Fire Hall at 363 Mill Street, the first standalone Sandwich Library was located just a couple of blocks down the street at 615 Mill Street. This week’s Throwback Thursday Picture was taken circa 1972 showing the Sandwich Public Library, which was originally housed in the former Teacher’s Training Building. The Town of Sandwich established its first library in 1923 and was located in the Town Hall. In 1934 the library was moved to this location, where it functioned until Ambassador Library opened in July 1972. The structure was eventually demolished to make way for an apartment building.
