Throwback Thursday

Big Bear Grocery Store was located in downtown Windsor. This weeks Throwback Thursday pic taken 13 January 1956, shows the store located at 279 Chatham Street East at the corner of McDougall Avenue. The store opened in 1949 at 244 Windsor Avenue and moved to Chatham Street in 1951. The store had a short history of operations in Windsor closing its doors to customers in 1961.     Wow I must have a memory like a elephant like my father used to tell me when I was younger because I remember having to go to get groceries because my mother suffered from a mental disorder which was a fear of the world so she used to send me when I was very young to go get groceries at the Three Bears .Grocery store & I came home with the grub For my brothers & I .Thank you for posting it .I lost my dad at 58 & my mother of 68 due to cancer but me & my brothers will always remember the 3 bears!

    After Big Bear closed its doors in 1961, a business called ‘House of Foods, Ltd.’ opened. Consumers Warehouse was located at 166 McDougall Street.

    After itclosed was the location taken over by Consumers Warehouse a local grocery store?
