Throwback Thursday

This weeks Throwback Thursday Pic is of the construction of the Ambassador Bridge. The photograph was taken 90 years ago in 1928. The suspension bridge was opened to the public on November 15, 1929. The total length of the bridge is 7,500 feet and 152 feet above the Detroit River. Today the Ambassador Bridge accounts for 25% of all trade between Canada and the United States and is the busiest border crossing in North America. If you like to see this or other historic photographs of Windsor, please visit the library’s digital exhibit “Windsor’s, History and Pictures” at http://heritage.windsorpubliclibrary.com/index.php.

The city of Windsor has posts on u-tube which show movies of construction on both sides of the river and first two people to walk across the partially finished bridge.
