Exciting news! Book Club Kits are now available via Interlibrary Loan! If you have been taking advantage of our Book Club Kit collection, you’ll be happy to hear that you now have access to more titles through our Interlibrary Loan service (ILLO). ILLO is a process that we use to borrow print materials that are not part of our collection from other public libraries in Ontario.
Please use this form to submit your ILLO requests. While we do not have a list of additional titles available, this list outlines the libraries that are loaning out kits, and some suggestions on how to search their individual catalogues. That being said, it is NOT necessary for you to track down the title and the library; we will do that for you. Simply submit your ILLO request with the title that you would like to borrow, and we’ll take care of the rest. If the title you request is not available we’ll let you know.
A Background on Book Club Kits
Book Club Kits have been a staple in our library collection for about five years now. We would often hear from our customers that they loved their book clubs, but were discouraged by common barriers: selecting new titles, buying a new book each month, formulating challenging questions for discussion, etc. Book club kits seemed like a natural fit, so we assembled a collection to give it a try. Needless to say, the trial was a success. The collection has grown, and many local book clubs have come to rely exclusively on our Book Club Kit collection for their monthly reads.
If you’re not familiar with Book Club Kits, here is some helpful info:
- Each Book Club Kit contains 10-12 copies of a single title (we try to include Large Print and Audiobook options), laminated discussion questions, book reviews, author biographies and suggestions for further reading.
- Kits are mostly geared towards adult readers, but we do have a small collection of children’s kits available as well.
- Each kit can be borrowed for six weeks at a time.
