Indian Woman I Am: Pain, Hope, Courage and Survival

“My name is Evelyn Morales of Saulteaux, Ojibway, Cree, Scottish and French ancestral lines.  I was born in Manitoba and given the spirit name “One Storm Thunder Lightning Woman”.  I am a mother, grandmother, an Aboriginal, and a Christian woman.  I have survived many traumas throughout my life from experiencing residential school, a broken home, and broken relationships to living in a home school for girls, foster homes and ultimately, living homeless.”

So begins Morales’ book Indian Woman I Am, a moving and uplifting story of how she overcame devastating life events to become a strong and inspiring woman.  We are pleased to host Evelyn as she reads from her book, demonstrates hand drumming, shares her story and answers questions. We hope you will join us Thursday, November 10 at 6:30 pm in the Living Room at Central Library to hear her remarkable tale and gain insight into a rich Canadian culture.
