The Secret Path, written by Gord Downie and illustrated by local author Jeff Lemire, is a special multi-media project dedicated towards telling the story of Chanie Wenjack. Chanie Wenjack was an indigenous Anishinaabe boy who died while running away from a residential school, hoping to reach his family 600 kilometres away. The project consists of a solo album, a graphic novel and an animated film. This is Canada’s story; every Canadian should know Chanie Wenjack’s name.
