WPL Writers’ Group

The Windsor Public Library Writers’ Group is a group of people passionate about writing. Members write fiction and non-fiction, children’s books, books for adults, poetry, and prose. The group meets monthly at the ‘X-Press Self-Publishing Lab at Central Library (850 Ouellette Avenue) to talk about various aspects of writing.

July’s meeting will focus on The Power Of Your Words – Using Emotion In Your Writing. The workshop will be presented by guest author M.J. Domet, who is currently on a cross-Canada tour. Everyone is welcome, no matter what your level of writing skill. Past topics have included what makes a good author reading, how to set up and maintain a web site (perfect for promoting your books!), and sales strategies in the local market.

“It’s exciting to see a community of writers coming together and flourishing because of the connections they make,” says Sue Perry, ‘X-Press Self-Publishing Facilitator. “Authors who normally would not meet are sharing experiences and leaving with fresh perspectives on their writing.”

Come and meet interesting people and see what the WPL Writers’ Group is about at the July meeting at Central Library on Tuesday, July 16 at 6 pm.

Young Writers: please note the Self-Publishing Lab is offering workshops this summer geared to 5-13 year-olds on July 24, 31, and August 7 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm for young folks interested in contributing to the library’s Go Windsor! book or for those who simply love to write, rhyme, or draw. Check out these drop-in workshops at the Self-Publishing Lab for some help in getting started or polishing your work!

Hello! I’d love to meet up with some local writers! Does this group still meet up monthly, and do you accept new members?

    • Windsor Public Library says:

Unluckily, the WPL Writer’s group is not meeting anymore at this point at least. We may revisit the program in the future, but there are no dates or plans as of yet to start this group again.

  2. Trish says:

When is the March meeting? Is it March 14th? Basing that guess on the trend in dates. 🙂

  3. Matt Demers says:

Hi, is this group still active? I’d like to attend.

  4. Christine says:

Very interested in attending a meeting. when is the next scheduled meeting?

      Hi Christine,
The meetings will start up again in the fall. The first is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13 at 7 pm. Hope to see you there!

    • Doreen White says:

I just moved from Whitby and I am interested in attending meetings.

      • Windsor Public Library says:

The group meets once a month. Unluckily the last meeting was on October 11, so you just missed it.
The date hasn’t been announced for November yet. Please have a look at the November Program Guide once available in the “Programs” section for the future date.

      • Sue says:

The next meeting will be Tuesday, November 15 at 6 pm. Hope to see you there!

  5. Toni says:

I would like to attend the next meeting. When will the group meet? Thank you.

  6. Heather Lee says:

I have a (barely)seven year old who is writing a novel and loves it. I was wondering if this group would be appropriate for her or if you know of a group that may help her on her adventures in writing.

    • Sue says:

      Hi Heather,
The WPL Writers’ group is geared to adults, but watch for a writing workshop for kids in the Self-Pub Lab in April! Look for it in the April program guide, and I will email you details at the provided address. Also, Library Live Children’s Club at Central Library on Tuesday evenings often focuses on different activities, including writing. This month is Fun February. Check out details here.

  7. Victoria says:

Hello, I am wondering if it’s possible to attend the group’s next meeting? When and where is the next meeting? Thanks!

    • Windsor Public Library says:

The next meeting is tomorrow at 7:00 pm in the Self-Publishing area at Central Library. All welcome!

      • Debbie says:

Hello, I am interested in checking out the writer’s group. Are you able to share the schedule and location of these meetings. I am looking for a writing group in the city. Thanks so much!

        • Windsor Public Library says:

The group meets once a month in the Self-Publishing Lab at Central Library. Next meeting is Tuesday March 8, at 7:00 pm.

  8. Lindsey says:

Is this writers group still active? when is the next meeting?

  9. J says:

Screenwriters? I need help with several entertaining screenplay projects, but especially with an important one that is a socially relevant, educational, cautionary tale. I am disabled and jumbled but my concepts are intelligent, excellent, and original, but desperately need help organizing.

    • J says:

Also, these original screenplay stories may be adapted to other mediums such as novels, novellas, graphic novels, stage plays, etc. I am not after money, though I wish them to be completed and published or produced. I just want to share these with people that may be seeking good ideas they might run with.

  10. Carissa says:

Umm… I was just wondering, when is the next kids workshop?

    • Sue says:

Hi Carissa. We love to tailor our programming to meet the needs of our users. Could you send me an email at sperry@windsorpubliclibrary.com to let me know what age range you would like to see targeted? That way I can be sure you know directly when such a workshop is planned.

  11. Gillian Andrews says:

When is your next meeting of the writer’s group?

    • Windsor Public Library says:

      Tuesday, October 14, 2014
From 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Join our group of writers for discussions about all aspects of writing, from writer’s block to marketing. All Levels and all genres welcome.

  12. Kathy Rogers says:

I can’t tell you how excited I was to find out that this group exists!! Please, PLEASE tell me that you don’t only meet on Tuesday evenings? I direct a women’s choir on Tuesday evenings and cannot change that, but I would love to become a part of your group. If Tuesday evenings are the only option, can you direct me to another writer’s group in Windsor? I would certainly appreciate any help you can give.

  13. Harry Grewal says:

Hi, I’m interested in joining this group. Is there a meeting I could attend anytime soon?

  14. Arthur Schultz says:

Hello, I am writing a book (fiction) and would like to meet/join the group at it’s next meeting. When do you meet and is there one in April?
