2014: What Were Windsorites Reading?

Whether in traditional book form, on a tablet or via a Smartphone, Windsorites certainly took advantage of the abundance of materials available at Windsor Public Library last year. Circulation figures show that 1,174,452 items circulated – of this, 113,735 were in electronic format.

It’s easier than ever to check out materials, manage your account online and download electronic resources – now is the perfect time to discover what your public library has to offer.

Surprisingly, the most popular title at WPL last year was a children’s resource, THE KEY: MATH GRADES 3, 4, 5, 6, 7: STUDENT STUDY GUIDE, which was checked out 344 times. Another title in the student study guide series, THE KEY: SCIENCE GRADES 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, placed fifth on the list with 272 checkouts.

On hearing that a student study guide on mathematics topped the list of most-used materials, WPL CEO Kitty Pope said, “Windsor Public Library has a long history of ensuring the community has access to the resources supporting reading, writing and numeracy skills. We are indebted to a $50,000 donation from famous Windsorite and co-founder of Blackberry Mike Lazaridis some years ago which helped fund the purchase of our great science and math books.  Thanks Mike!  Your gift continues to give back to our community.”

Places two through four on the most popular list were occupied by adult fiction titles. Coming in at number 2 was SYCAMORE ROW by John Grisham (342), followed by THE GODS OF GUILT by Michael Connelly (283) and in fourth place TOP SECRET TWENTY-ONE: A STEPHANIE PLUM NOVEL, by Janet Evanovich. (274).

The most popular reference title checked out was the OFFICIAL MTO DRIVER’S HANDBOOK (125).

Other popular children’s titles included: PETE THE CAT: I LOVE MY WHITE SHOES by Eric Litwin (223) in third place; followed by two titles from Jeff Kinney, DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: HARD LUCK (195) and DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: CABIN FEVER (181)

The top three eBook downloads were: GONE GIRL by Gillian Flynn (161); NEVER GO BACK: JACK REACHER SERIES (Book 18) by Lee Child (146); and THE RACKETEER by John Grisham (133);

Have you ever wondered how much money the Library saves you and your family each month? If you had purchased all of the titles listed here, the cost would be more than $170. What were Windsorites watching? I am curious to see what the most borrowed DVDs were. Are those statistics available? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.
