Attention Writers!

Attention writers! Our area is lucky to enjoy a richness in literary arts, and we are even more fortunate that we have professionals in our midst who are willing to share their skills. Upcoming are two series of FREE writing workshops designed to help new writers hone their craft and gain valuable insights from professional writers.

First on offer is the Writers Salon II to be held at the Kingsville Library on Wednesdays, starting January 21st. This workshop will be under the guidance of Paul Vasey, award-winning author of 12 books. The workshops are free, but registration is required. Writers can register online at www.esssecountylibrary.ca, or by calling 226-946-1529 ext. 270.

Starting Tuesday, February 17, Windsor Public Library, ‘XPress Self-Publishing Lab is proud to host a free Writing Workshop Series led by Madeline Sonik, an award-winning anthologist, writer and teacher. She is the writer-in-residence at the University of Windsor and the workshops are thanks to the generosity of the University of Windsor and Canada Council’s Writer-in Residence program. Again, the workshops are free, but registration is required. Phone 519-255-6770 ext. 4603 for details.

As Brian Sweet, who runs a writers’ group in Leamington and is himself a local author says, “literary interest within our region is thriving and it is exciting to see the increase in the number of opportunities for aspiring writers to sharpen their skills and to share information with other writers.”

Brush off those post-holiday blues and visit your libraries to take the first step toward getting your writing project off the ground this year!
