Jean Foster was a dedicated library staff member. When she passed away, the word that was heard over and over again was “mentor”. So many whose lives she touched felt that she had lent guidance and advice in a way that left us feeling stronger and optimistic. She shared her passion for learning, reading and books, not just at Windsor Public Library, but through her work with BookFest Windsor and Literary Arts Windsor.
This year will be the first year that there will be a presentation of the Jean Foster Memorial Award. This essay contest is open to anyone under the age of 25, and has the theme of “What Books Mean to Me.” In addition to the award, there will be a cash prize presented to the winner onstage at the Capitol Theatre during BookFest Windsor 2014 on October 25.
Jean’s presence is sorely missed at Windsor Public Library, but her legacy of encouraging young people lives on through this award. Please see the flyer for guidelines and rules for submissions. Deadline for entries is October 14, 2014.
